Carl Maurice Sutphin
Ordained: 1958
Carl Sutphin is accused of sexually abusing at least 23 minors in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Some of his alleged victims were as young as 7. In the 1990s, several accusers came forward. In 2002, he retired and his faculties were removed. He was arrested in 2003, and charged with 14 counts of molestation for sexually abusing six boys. The charges were dismissed, however, because of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that set limits on the passage of time for prosecuting certain types of sex crimes. Sutphin has been the subject of several civil lawsuits over the years. Named in several civil suits. He was laicized in 2005.
