Alejandro Jose Castillo
Ordained: 1981
In June of 2010, the parents of two adolescent brothers who alleged that Castillo had sexually abused them reported the boys’ allegations to the Diocese of San Bernardino. Castillo was arrested and was removed from ministry shortly thereafter. It was not until September of 2010 that the diocese informed Castillo’s former parishioners of the reason for his removal. Prior to the incident provoking his removal, Castillo was the subject of a complaint about sexual misconduct brought by an adult. This prior complaint was not deemed credible at the time it was made. Castillo was released from jail in April of 2012 and is now a registered sex offender. In 2014, two civil lawsuits alleging that Castillo abused the plaintiffs were settled for a total of $3.8 million. On a list of priests credibly accused of sexual misconduct released by the Diocese of San Bernardino in October of 2018, Castillo’s current status is listed as having been removed from the priesthood.
Alejandro Castillo was known as “Alex” or “Reverend Alex.”
