In 1994, a 20 year-old man came forward and told the Los Angeles Archdiocese that he had been sexually abused by Jeffrey Newell. The Archdiocese promised that Newell would never work in youth ministry again. But in 2010, Newell was found working with young men as a priest in Tijuana, Mexico. Newell allegedly abused children in Tijuana as well. Newell’s accuser filed a civil lawsuit in 2010, accusing the Los Angeles archdiocese of fraud. After an extended investigation, Newell –along with seven other priests of the Tijuana, Mexico Archdiocese — was removed without privileges.
