Leonard Mateo was an extern priest from the Philippines. He arrived in Los Angeles Archdiocese in 1959. In 1960, he left the Archdiocese to study at Fordham University. After working in the Joliet Diocese and as a Chaplin at a VA hospital, Mateo returned to the Archdiocese of Cebu. Mateo has been named in at least two civil lawsuits alleging sexual abuse of several boys. The alleged abuse occurred in 1959 and 1980-1982. Three of the victims were under the age of 11 when they were abused by Mateo. Mateo died in 2004.
