Richard Allen Henry
Ordained: 1972
In 1991, Richard Allen Henry pled guilty to sexual abuse of four boys between 1985-1991. In 1993, he was sentenced to 8 years in prison. That same year, he was removed from active ministry. Other victims came forward in 2002 and 2003. According to the Los Angeles Archdiocese, there are a total of 13 accusers.
Before his 1991 guilty plea, the Archbishop had warned in writing about Henry’s inappropriate behavior around young boys. Henry’s personnel file shows four pre-1991 complaints against him — the first in 1980, when a parishioner passed on a rumor that Henry had a boy “living in his house” every weekend. The other three were made in 1988: a layperson reported that the priest “grabs little boys and hugs them,” a nun said he “favors boys over girls,” and a pastor said Henry was spending too much time alone with a boy. Instead of being removed from ministry, he received psychotherapy and was allowed to remain at his parish.
