Gerardo Beltran
Ordained: 1982
Gerardo Beltran began working in the Diocese of Sacramento in 1982. Sacramento police began investigating him in May of 1991 based on allegations of sexual abuse. Beltran had allegedly had sex with a vulnerable adult woman. However, Beltran fled to Mexico in December of 1991. In 1992, he was charged with the molestation of two young girls and a warrant was issued for his arrest, but he was not extradited or defrocked. In 2007, rumors in the Mexican village in which he had been serving as a priest alleged that Beltran continued to sexually abuse young girls there. Although Beltran was arrested by Mexican authorities in 2008 prior to his planned extradition to California, he was released when Mexican courts determined that the statute of limitations on the crimes with which he was charged in the United States had expired. As of 2018, Beltran remains on the FBI’s Most Wanted list for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under fourteen. He is now considered laicized.
