Angel Cruces was an extern priest from Philippines working in Archdiocese starting in 1978. Cruces was one of seven priests sued in civil suits filed by a 16 year-old girl after the priests allegedly sexually abused her over the course of several years at St. Philomena in Carson, CA. One of the priests impregnated her, after which, she was secreted away to the Philippines. After the suits were filed, all seven priests fled the country with support from the Archdiocese. The other priests included Santiago (Henry) Tamayo, Henry Caboang, Valentine Tugade, Sylvio Lacar, Victor Balbin, and Rubin Abaya. Cruces died in 1996.
