Austin Peter Keegan

In 2003, Father Austin Peter Keegan was arrested by the FBI in Mexico on 25 counts of child molestation and sodomy. The abuse allegedly occurred in San Francisco in the 1960s. He eventually faced 102 counts of child molestation in San Francisco allegedly perpetrated over 28 years in the dioceses of San Francisco and Santa Rosa. Keegan was acquitted of the charges when the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the California law extending the criminal statute of limitations on child sex abuse cases was unconstitutional. He was defrocked.
