On January 2, 2019, the Diocese of Monterey released a list of 30 clergymen who have been “credibly accused” of sexually abusing children. Carl Faria was listed as a credibly accused priest not previously released to the public. The diocese acknowledged that it received reports of sexual abuse involving Faria arising out of incidents occurring between 1968-1971 and 1973-1976. Faria reportedly had his priestly faculties removed in 2002.
