Charles Leonard Connor
Ordained:
In 2002, Connor pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a developmentally disabled man who worked at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos, CA. Connor was sentenced to six months’ house arrest. Sacred Heart was already home to a group of three Jesuits who were registered sex offenders after being convicted of sexual offenses involving minors. Though Connor confessed the sexual abuse to his superiors in 2000, it was not until after his victim and another disabled man abused at the same facility filed a civil suit in 2001 that enough evidence was gathered to press criminal charges. The Jesuits settled the civil suit with the two men for $7.5 million. Connor died in 2011.
