Christopher Berbena

Chistopher Berbena allegedly assaulted a young boy on multiple occasions when he was a student at St. Anthony’s Seminary in Santa Barbara. The abuse occurred in the early 1980s. Berbena was working in Oakland when he was placed on leave and then returned to duty within one month when Archdiocese could not supply info on the accuser. He was again placed on leave in 2006. He and numerous others were named as abusers in civil suit filed in 2008 which alleged that the Franciscans constituted “an ongoing public nuisance as a result of their practice of shuttling pedophile priests among communities without warning members of the public that a sexual predator might be in their midst.”
