According to a list of priests credibly accused of sexual misconduct released by the Diocese of San Bernardino in October of 2018, Howard Melzer has been credibly accused of child sexual abuse incidents occurring from 1976-1980. The Diocese of San Bernardino became aware of these allegations in 1993 and reported Melzer to his religious order, the Priests of the Sacred Heart (S.C.J.). However, no report was made to the police until 2002. According to the 2018 list, Howard Melzer is deceased.
