On January 2, 2019, the Diocese of Monterey released a list of 30 clergymen who have been “credibly accused” of sexually abusing children. James Wisecaver was listed as a credibly accused priest not previously released to the public. The diocese acknowledged that it received reports of sexual abuse involving Wisecaver in 1997 arising out of an incident occurring that same year. Wisecaver died in 2015.
