Juan Arzube
Ordained: 1954
Juan Arzube was a native of Ecuador and was ordained in Los Angeles, California in 1954. In 1971, he was elevated to Auxiliary Bishop of the Los Angeles Archdiocese. In 2003, Arzube was accused of having molested an 11 year-old boy in 1975 and 1976 when he was pastor at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in East Los Angeles. He admitted in a 2006 deposition to training altar boys in his bedroom, but denied molesting anyone. According to media reports, Arzube often lobbied on behalf of molesting priests, arguing that they deserved to be forgiven. Arzube retired in 1993 and died in December 2007.
