Leland Boyer

Ordained: 1949

Leland Boyer served as director of Confraternity of Christian Doctrine programs that provided religious education to public school students and was in the College of Consultors, which assists the archbishop on serious matters, including sexual abuse.  During that same time, he was accused of sexual abuse of three boys while acting as a school adminstrator. Personnel files released by the Los Angeles Archdiocese reveal three complaints of abuse that occurred over a ten year period from 1973 to 1982.

In 1981, a man reported to a church official in that Boyer had open-mouth kissed him when he was a young boy.  In 1995, a second man said Boyer had sexually abused on more than one occasion a decade earlier when the accuser was about 13.  In 2002, a third man reported that when he was age 13 to 16, he was sexually abused by Boyer in 1972-1975.  Archdiocese officials restricted Boyer’s ministry in 1995, but allowed him to remain pastor emeritus at his parish, which had a school, until his death in 2003.
