Thomas Bettencourt

Ordained in 1976, Thomas Bettencourt served at parishes throughout the Bay Area until his retirement in 1988. He died in 1990. In 1997, it was reported that he had sexually abused a child in 1982 at St. Justin Parish in Santa Clara, CA. In 1982, Bettencourt was transferred from St. Justin to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Los Gatos, CA, his final placement prior to his retirement. Bettencourt’s name was first disclosed by the Diocese of San Jose on a list of priests credibly accused of sexual misconduct released in October of 2018.
